University of Alaska TRiO Upward Bound

Upward Bound is a federally funded program aimed to improve the graduation rates of high school students and increase the number of graduates who continue with post-secondary education. Upward Bound program primarily serves low-income families with students who are the first-generation to attend college.

Academic Year

Students enrolled in the Upward Bound program during the acadamic year will receive tutorial sessions, educational/recreational & cultural events, group activities, exploration of post-secondary education opportunities & visits to campuses, financial aid application assistance, and may participate in the six-week summer program on the UAF campus.

Program Benefits

Summer Program

The Upward Bound program conducts a six-week academic camp on the UAF campus during the summer. The summer program emphasizes academic development for students from eligible schools and strengthens opportunities for enrollment in post-secondary education programs. The experience helps UB students become familiar with the UAF campus, residence life, the type and level of services provided, and, places a strong emphasis on academics.
