During the regular academic school year the UAF Upward Bound program is active in high schools across Alaska.
Students benefit from participating in the program:
- Weekly check-in meetings with students to encourage and promote good study habits and provide additional counseling for students as needed
- Direct access to a local coordinator, often a teacher or counselor, who assumes an additional duty to lead students through their Upward Bound activities
- Free tutoring
- Opportunities to explore college activities and tour campuses
- Assistance with developing study skills
- Enrollment in Upward Bound Bridging Course
- Arranged career awareness activities
- Participation in community service events
- Field trips and experiential learning
- Travel opportunities
- Up to 40$ per month as a stipend for participation, academic improvement, and commitment
