UAF Welcomes Michelle Spillane as New Upward Bound Director
Fairbanks, AK – April 18, 2024 – The T3 Alaska program proudly announces the appointment of Michelle Spillane as the new Director of Upward Bound programs at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). With an esteemed background in education and a commitment to fostering educational excellence, Spillane brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new role.
In joining the T3 Alaska program, Spillane embarks on a new chapter in her career, adding her expertise to the program’s expanding administrative team. Adam Low, the program’s director, expressed excitement about Spillane’s appointment, stating, “Michelle’s passion for education and her proven leadership make her an invaluable addition to our team.”
Spillane’s journey in education has been marked by notable achievements. Previously serving as the Principal of North Pole High School, she earned recognition as the Alaska Region 6 Principal of the Year in 2023, a testament to her outstanding leadership and dedication to student success. Her contributions extended beyond administrative roles, as she also taught English and History within the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District.
Looking ahead, Spillane is poised to continue her academic pursuits by commencing an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program at UAF. Her research will focus on exploring effective methods to enhance the educational landscape in rural Alaska, aligning closely with the mission of the Upward Bound programs to provide educational opportunities and support to underserved communities.
As the new Director of Upward Bound, Spillane’s vision and leadership will play a pivotal role in advancing the program’s mission of empowering students to achieve their academic goals and pursue higher education.
